•  Direct Investments

Sumitomo has minority investments in Boyne Smelters Limited (BSL) and the Gladstone Power Station. These investments are held via SC Metal Pty Ltd, a company jointly owned by Sumitomo Corporation and Sumitomo Australia Pty Ltd.

BSL is Australia's largest aluminium smelter, producing more than half a million tonnes of aluminium each year. Production activities at the smelter include manufacturing of carbon anodes, aluminium production (smelting) in reduction lines, and casting of molten metal into aluminium products.

The smelter is operated and managed by Rio Tinto Alcan (RTA).

•  Trading Operations

Sumitomo Australia’s trading operations are closely integrated with those of the global trading business of Sumitomo Corporation. The main traded products are primary and secondary aluminium ingots, exported through the Sumitomo network to customers in Japan and other parts of Asia. Titanium sponge, aluminium semi-products such as coil and sheet are imported to Australia for the manufacture of packaging material or other industrial uses.
