Sumitomo Australia is a leading manufacturer and importer of automotive components for Australian motor vehicle builders.

Established in 1993, the automotive business now employs around 130 personnel and operates from our purpose built facility at Epping in Melbourne. This business is fully certified to TS16949, ISO14001 and ISO 9002. Sumitomo provides full design, development, manufacturing and warehousing solutions for electronic and electrical automotive components.

Our products include wire harnesses, and electronic assemblies.
Close collaboration with both suppliers and customers, and operational excellence have established Sumitomo’s reputation for quality and reliability.

Sumitomo has partnered with SWS Australia Pty Ltd to provide rapid development of new products. Advanced CAD and simulation tools are used to construct circuit board prototypes, test product functionality and determine environment performance parameters.

Sumitomo sources components from overseas and local suppliers for manufacture and delivery of ready to install parts to Australian motor vehicle makers.

EDI links with customers provide real-time order processing and tracking information. Each finished product is tested prior to delivery, and full component traceability in each assembly is provided. Each batch of parts built by Sumitomo is customised to meet the customer specified in-line sequence of model, features and colour options. The ‘order to delivery’ lead-time is just 40 minutes.

Sumitomo’s innovation and reliability has been recognised through many awards, including the 2007 Ford Australia Gold Award for Cost, Quality and Delivery and the 2009 ’Supplier of the year’ awarded by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries.

In addition to the supply of components, Sumitomo imports a range of facilites and equipment for auto manufacturing such as welding robots, stamping tools, dies and press from Japan.
